The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on Wednesday suspended the food licence of Seven Seas Hospitality Private Limited with immediate effect after an inspection found serious violations of food safety and hygiene standards.

According to an FSSAI statement, the company has been directed to stop all food-related business activities during the suspension period. The action followed an inspection that recorded a compliance score of just 30%, which was deemed non-compliant with food safety requirements.

During the inspection, officials found around 74 kg of spoiled food items, which were destroyed on the spot. An FSSAI post on Instagram said the premises had several hygiene issues, including stagnant water, foul odour, dirt and inadequate cleaning of food preparation areas.

Mould was found on tomatoes, papayas, jaggery and cashews, while capsicums were rotten. The cooking oil was also found to have turned black and deteriorated.

The inspection also highlighted serious deficiencies in food storage. Vegetarian and non-vegetarian food were not stored separately, while meat was not properly stored. Officials also found water droplets falling onto food items inside the cold storage unit.

Infrastructure and pest-control shortcomings were also reported, including refrigerator leakage, ice accumulation, falling plaster, inadequate cold-storage facilities and poor ventilation. Cockroaches and flies were also found on the premises.

The inspection further found violations related to cleanliness, record-keeping and water testing. FSSAI said the action underlines its focus on regulatory compliance, hygiene and safe food-handling practices.
