A horrific act of violence sent shockwaves across Ferozepur, Punjab, on Saturday evening. In a high-octane target attack, 45-year-old Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Gurpreet Singh, alias Gopi, was brutally gunned down right in the heart of Mamdot’s bustling main market. The sudden, ruthless barrage of gunfire left shoppers panicked and shopkeepers scrambling for cover as chaos gripped the entire area.
According to eyewitnesses and preliminary police reports, Gurpreet Singh Gopi (45) was traveling with his associate, 22-year-old Harpreet Singh, alias Happy. A car carrying four masked, heavily armed assailants pulled up and intercepted them. Stepping out of their vehicle without warning, the gunmen unleashed an unrelenting hail of bullets onto the victims before speeding away into the night, brandishing their weapons in broad public view.
Local residents and police units rushed both victims to the Civil Hospital in critical condition. Doctors declared AAP leader Gurpreet Singh dead on arrival due to multiple gunshot wounds. News of his demise sparked widespread shock, grief, and anger among party supporters and locals. Meanwhile, 22-year-old Harpreet Singh, who sustained severe bullet injuries, was stabilized before being emergency-referred to a specialized private facility in Ludhiana, where he remains in critical condition.
Following the bloody rampage, law enforcement deployed heavy security across Mamdot to maintain order. Forensic units and high-level investigative teams are scanning CCTV footage across key entry and exit points to trace the getaway vehicle and establish the identities of the shooters.
Police officials confirmed that border check-posts have been alerted and raids are underway at multiple suspect locations. While preliminary leads point toward personal rivalry or political friction, authorities stated that the exact motive behind this planned assassination will be revealed as the investigation unfolds.
