A tragic road accident in Punjab's Jalandhar district claimed the lives of a husband, wife and their young daughter on Friday morning when a speeding car collided head-on with their Activa scooter near Phillaur.
The victims were returning from a religious visit to the Baba Murad Shah Dargah in Nakodar along with other family members when the accident occurred between Haripur and Pratappura villages. The family was travelling on an Activa scooter and motorcycles after offering prayers at the shrine.
According to reports, the collision took place near Haripur Khalsa Gate around 8:30 am. The impact was so severe that the scooter was completely mangled. Activa rider Vinay Kumar, his wife Suman and their six-year-old daughter Kavisha sustained critical injuries.
All three were rushed to the Sub-Divisional Hospital (SDH) in Phillaur. Doctors declared Suman and Kavisha dead on arrival. Vinay Kumar, who was in a critical condition, was referred to a higher medical centre but later succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
The deceased family belonged to Bhamian village in Ludhiana district. Other injured persons involved in the accident are currently undergoing treatment.
Dr Tarun, who attended the victims at the hospital, said the mother and daughter had no signs of life when they were brought to the emergency ward, with both breathing and heartbeat having ceased before arrival.
Meanwhile, Ravinder Singh, who was travelling in the car and is undergoing treatment, said they were heading from Ludhiana towards Noormahal when the collision occurred. He stated that the accident happened suddenly and he was unable to determine how the crash took place.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are examining the circumstances that led to the fatal collision.
