Three people were killed and another seriously injured after a speeding truck rammed into a stationary vehicle on the Jammu-Katra Highway near Kharak Pandwa village in Haryana's Kaithal district. The accident also led to the recovery of a large quantity of narcotics hidden inside the truck involved in the crash.
The deceased have been identified as Anil Kumar, a truck owner from Uchana in Jind district, Ramniwas, a mechanic from Kharak Pandwa village, and the driver of the speeding truck. A mechanic's helper sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at a hospital.
According to police, Anil Kumar was returning from Delhi when his truck developed a technical fault. He parked the vehicle on the roadside near Kharak Pandwa and called a mechanic for repairs. Ramniwas and his helper reached the spot and began working on the truck.
While the repair work was underway, a truck coming from behind at high speed crashed into the stationary vehicle. The impact proved fatal for Anil Kumar, Ramniwas and the driver of the second truck.
After receiving information about the accident, police teams reached the scene and shifted the bodies to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.
During the investigation, police found that the truck which caused the collision was loaded with raw bananas. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of around 8 quintals of doda poppy husk concealed in nearly 40 sacks. The narcotic substance has been seized.
Police have launched a separate investigation to determine where the contraband was sourced from and where it was being transported.
Kalayat police station investigating officer Vikram Singh said police responded immediately after receiving information about the incident. He added that the matter is under investigation and further action will be taken based on the findings.
