Panic gripped passengers aboard the Delhi-Amritsar Intercity Express after unidentified miscreants allegedly pelted stones at the speeding train shortly before it reached Ludhiana railway station. The incident left three windowpanes of a coach shattered, triggering concern among passengers.
Following information received from the Ferozepur Control Room, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) swung into action and registered a case under relevant criminal sections against unidentified persons.
RPF teams are searching the railway tracks and surrounding areas to identify those responsible for the attack. However, the absence of a contact number for the complainant made it difficult for the security agencies to immediately pinpoint the exact location where the stone-pelting took place.
When the train reached Amritsar railway station and arrived at Platform No. 6, a joint inspection by technical staff and RPF officials found that the glass panels near the seats inside coach number NR 246321 had been damaged.
An investigation team has been constituted under the leadership of RPF Sub-Inspector Vijaypal Singh. The team is examining CCTV footage from cameras installed along the railway tracks and nearby areas to identify the accused.
Senior officials said that strict action would be taken against those who put the lives of passengers at risk, and assured that the culprits would be identified and arrested soon.
