A seven-year-old Class 1 student was injured at a government school in Dhanas, Chandigarh, on Saturday afternoon. The child was taken to the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH) in Sector 16 for treatment.
According to the child's father, the school called the family around 1 pm and informed them that their son had fallen from the stairs and sustained injuries. However, the father has alleged that the boy was actually injured during a fight with other students.
Father claimed that his son had been assaulted by some students on several occasions in the past as well. He said complaints had previously been made to school teachers regarding the alleged incidents, but no effective action was taken.
He further alleged that teachers were present when the latest incident occurred but did not intervene or take appropriate action to stop the fight.
Child had earlier studied at a private school but was shifted to the government school after his family faced financial difficulties.
Following the incident, the father took the boy to Sector 16 Government Hospital, where he received treatment for an injury near his ear and required stitches. According to the medical report, the child is conscious but has complained of headache and vomiting.
The hospital has also prepared a Medico-Legal Report (MLR) and informed the concerned police station. Police are examining the medical report and other details to establish how the child sustained the injuries and whether he was injured after falling from the stairs or during an altercation with other students.
The matter remains under investigation.
