Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president and former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Friday sought exemption from personal appearance before the Chandigarh District Court in an eight-year-old defamation case.
The matter was scheduled to be heard on Friday in the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Sonali Singh.
On behalf of Sukhbir Badal, his counsel Rajesh Kumar Rai filed an application seeking exemption from personal appearance. The application cited an important party meeting related to the upcoming Punjab elections, stating that Badal's presence was required at the meeting.
It also mentioned that lawyers of the local bar would remain on strike on Friday and would not appear before the court.
