The roar of fighter jets over the Ganga, aircraft streaking across the sky at high speeds and thrilling aerial manoeuvres created a spectacular scene in Varanasi. The ‘Wings Over Ganga’ air show turned the skies over Kashi into the centre of a grand aviation spectacle. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was present at Namo Ghat to witness the impressive display by the Indian Air Force. Set against the historic ghats and the flowing waters of the Ganga, the event offered a glimpse of India’s military capabilities and modern aviation technology.
The Sukhoi-30 MKI and the indigenous Light Combat Aircraft Tejas were among the major attractions of the air show. The fighter jets’ high-speed flights and precise manoeuvres highlighted the skill, training and discipline of Indian Air Force pilots. The Light Combat Helicopter Prachand also demonstrated its capabilities. The performance of different aircraft reflected the Indian Air Force’s continuing efforts to strengthen its operational capabilities through advanced technology and highly trained personnel.
The excitement grew further when the Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team performed coordinated manoeuvres with remarkable precision. The Sarang Helicopter Display Team also captured the attention of spectators with its performance. Formation flying and eye-catching aerial patterns made the event memorable, while the appearance of the tricolour in the sky added a patriotic touch to the celebrations.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath were also present at the event organised to mark the Indian Air Force’s 94th anniversary. The air show highlighted the force’s technological capabilities, the expertise of its pilots and its vital role in safeguarding the country’s airspace. Such events also provide an opportunity to inspire young people to explore careers in aviation and the defence services.
The air show, staged against the historic backdrop of Kashi, brought together tradition and modernity. On one side stood the cultural identity of the Ganga and its ancient ghats; on the other, the power of India’s modern air force dominated the skies. Through ‘Wings Over Ganga’, the Indian Air Force delivered an impressive display of skill and courage, giving the event a distinctive place among Varanasi’s major spectacles.
