Swine flu (Influenza H1N1) cases are increasing in Uttarakhand, raising concerns within the Health Department. Five people suffering from the infection have died, although officials said the patients were also battling other underlying health conditions.
According to the Health Department, the number of confirmed swine flu cases in the state has risen from 31 to 49 since August 1. Of the total cases reported so far, 34 have been detected in Dehradun alone.
State Surveillance Officer under the Integrated Disease Surveillance Program (IDSP), Dr. Pankaj, said that screening efforts have been intensified in areas where cases have been reported. Rapid Response Teams have been deployed across districts and are conducting micro-level surveillance. Each team includes a physician, a specialist, and other healthcare workers who are screening residents in affected areas.
Health officials are also tracing the travel history of infected individuals for the previous 10 to 15 days and identifying people who may have come into contact with them. Those exposed to confirmed patients are being tested for Influenza H1N1 as part of the containment strategy.
Health Department has urged people to remain vigilant, follow hygiene protocols, and seek medical attention if they develop flu-like symptoms.
