Tarn Taran Police on Saturday arrested a wanted accused, identified as Jagjit Singh alias Jagi, following an encounter during which he was injured in an exchange of fire with police personnel. The accused, who was wanted in FIR No. 205, was admitted to a hospital for treatment after sustaining bullet injuries.
According to police officials, a team received a tip-off regarding the whereabouts of Jagjit Singh and immediately launched an operation to trace him. During the search, police spotted the suspect and attempted to intercept him. While being chased near a petrol pump, the accused allegedly tried to flee on a motorcycle. However, his bike reportedly skidded, causing him to fall on the road.
Police said that after the fall, Jagjit Singh allegedly opened fire on the police party using an illegal firearm. Officers claimed they first warned the accused to surrender, but when he continued firing, the police retaliated in self-defence. During the exchange, the suspect was hit by two bullets and was subsequently taken into custody.
Officials stated that Jagjit Singh was already wanted in FIR No. 205, in which he is also accused of firing at a police team. Further investigations are underway to examine his criminal background and identify any associates linked to his activities.
Police said efforts are continuing to gather information about other individuals who may have been in contact with the accused and to determine the full extent of his alleged criminal network.
