Two women were killed after allegedly being run over by a car following a heated argument in Punjab's Tarn Taran district, police said on Friday.
The incident took place in Naushehra Pannuan town, where the accused reportedly fled the scene after leaving his vehicle behind. The victims later succumbed to their injuries during treatment at a hospital.
According to a statement given to Sarhali Police Station by Jhilmil Singh, a resident of Feruman Beas in Amritsar, he had come to visit his sister Rajbir Kaur at Chaudharywala village in Tarn Taran. Rajbir Kaur is married to Bhupinder Singh and resides in the village.
Jhilmil Singh alleged that his sister Rajbir Kaur and her mother-in-law, Surjit Kaur, wife of the late Narinder Singh, had gone to the house of their neighbour Baldev Singh alias Fauji for some work. During their visit, a heated argument reportedly broke out between Baldev Singh and the two women.
Police said that during the altercation, Baldev Singh allegedly became enraged, started his Swift car (PB03 BF 2602), and deliberately drove it into Rajbir Kaur and Surjit Kaur with the intention of causing fatal injuries.
The impact left both women critically injured, triggering panic in the area. They were rushed to Guru Nanak Dev Super Speciality Hospital in Tarn Taran, where both later died during treatment.
Following the incident, SHO Rohan Singh of Sarhali Police Station reached the spot with a police team. A case has been registered against the accused, who remains at large, and further investigation is underway.
