In a major breakthrough against cross-border crime, the Tarn Taran Police, in a joint operation with the Border Security Force, recovered a large cache of sophisticated weapons and arrested one accused.
During the operation, security forces seized one MP-09 rifle and seven advanced pistols, including four Glock pistols, two Zigana pistols, and one Beretta pistol.
Police said that preliminary investigation indicates the consignment was allegedly sent by Pakistan-based anti-national elements in collusion with gangster networks active in Punjab.
According to investigating agencies, the weapons were intended to be used for targeted killings, spreading terror, and disturbing peace and communal harmony in Punjab. Officials believe the network had been operating for a considerable period under the directions of cross-border handlers.
An FIR has been registered under the relevant sections of law, and further investigation is underway to identify other members of the network and trace the entire supply chain behind the smuggling operation.
