Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has reaffirmed its plan to hire an additional 15,000 employees in the United States over the next five years, saying the suspension of the permanent labour certification program is unlikely to affect its US operations or client engagements.
The IT major issued the statement on Friday in response to the US government's announcement regarding the suspension of the Permanent Labour Certification (PERM) programme. TCS said it would comply with all directives issued by the US Department of Labor.
According to the company, its US workforce strategy is primarily focused on hiring local talent. It also relies on its established recruitment infrastructure across the country to meet its workforce requirements.
TCS reiterated that its plan to recruit 15,000 additional employees over the next five years remains unchanged. The company said the move would further strengthen its local workforce in the US.
The company currently operates 31 offices and delivery centres across the United States, employing a significant number of local workers.
TCS also pointed out that the number of applications it filed under the PERM programme over the past two years remained in single digits. Based on this, the company expects the programme's suspension to have no significant impact on its hiring strategy or client-related operations.
However, TCS emphasised that it would continue to comply with all applicable instructions issued by the US Department of Labor.
Meanwhile, Indian-origin US Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal has criticised the Trump administration's decision, adding to the debate surrounding the policy and its potential implications for foreign workers and employment practices in the United States.
