Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, who chairs the Cabinet Sub-Committee constituted to address employees’ issues, on Wednesday held back-to-back meetings with representatives of 10 unions from the education sector and the Thermal Plant Employees’ Union.
During the meetings, Cheema discussed various issues and demands raised by employee representatives and assured them that all genuine concerns would be considered sympathetically and resolved at the earliest. Key demands raised by education sector unions included fresh recruitment, transfer-related issues and revision of pay structures.
Reassuring employee leaders, Cheema said the Bhagwant Mann-led government has already initiated the teacher recruitment process and advertisements inviting applications will be issued soon.
He directed officials of the Education Department to complete all necessary procedures without delay and instructed them to immediately forward cases requiring Cabinet approval. He also stressed the need for swift action on pending matters to ensure timely resolution.
Addressing the issue of recruitment backlogs, the Finance Minister directed the Education Department to hold a joint meeting with senior officials from the Departments of Social Security, Sports, Defence Services Welfare and Personnel to find an early solution to pending cases.
In a separate meeting with representatives of the Thermal Plant Employees’ Union, Cheema instructed officials of the Power Department to resolve their legitimate demands at the earliest.
Representatives from various employee unions participated in the meetings and presented their concerns before the Cabinet Sub-Committee. The discussions covered a wide range of issues affecting teachers, educational staff, unemployed teacher aspirants and thermal plant employees across the state.
The meetings are part of the Punjab Government’s ongoing efforts to engage with employee organisations and address their grievances through dialogue and administrative action.
