Punjab and Chandigarh are likely to witness a change in weather from October 29, with thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds and hailstorms expected at several places over the next two days, according to the Meteorological Centre, Chandigarh.
The weather department has issued a warning for thunderstorms and hailstorms in Punjab and Chandigarh on October 29 and 30. However, weather conditions are expected to return to normal from October 31.
Meanwhile, Punjab’s average maximum temperature rose by 0.7 degrees Celsius on Wednesday compared to the previous day, bringing it close to normal levels. Faridkot recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 36.2 degrees Celsius.
In Chandigarh, the maximum temperature on October 28 stood at 33 degrees Celsius, which was 4.2 degrees above normal.
The expected weather change is attributed to a western disturbance. A cyclonic circulation is present over Jammu and adjoining areas at an altitude of 3.1 to 4.5 kilometres above sea level. Additionally, a fresh western disturbance is active as a trough in the middle tropospheric westerly winds.
Under the influence of these weather systems, cloudy skies, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds are likely across Punjab and Chandigarh, with hailstorms possible at some locations.
According to the weather department’s forecast, the likelihood of rainfall in Punjab is expected to decrease after October 30, with conditions likely to stabilise from October 31.
