Punjab Newsline | Manali

As intense heatwave conditions continue across several parts of the country, popular hill stations like Manali and Kodaikanal are witnessing massive traffic congestion due to an overwhelming tourist influx during the summer vacation season.

In Manali, heavy traffic jams were reported since morning on the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway, within the town area, and on routes leading to the Atal Tunnel, Mall Road, Vashisht, Solang Valley, and Palchan. Long queues of vehicles stretched for several kilometers, with commuters stuck for hours as traffic crawled through major tourist spots.

Tourists traveling with families to escape the extreme heat added significant pressure on the town’s already strained traffic system.

Local residents said tourism has increased rapidly over the past few years, but road expansion and parking infrastructure have failed to keep pace. As a result, traffic congestion in the region has become a recurring problem every summer season.
