A major accident took place on Monday at Maharaja Agrasen Hospital located in Noona Majra village, Haryana, when four workers fell unconscious after inhaling toxic gas while cleaning a sewer line inside the hospital premises.

All four workers are said to be in critical condition and are currently undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

According to information, sanitation workers Shatrughan, Anshul, and Vijender had entered a manhole to clean the sewer when they reportedly came in contact with poisonous gas accumulated inside the drain. Within moments of entering the manhole, the workers began suffocating and collapsed unconscious inside the sewer.

The incident created panic across the hospital campus. In an attempt to rescue the trapped workers, an electricity department employee working at the hospital also entered the manhole. However, he too was overcome by the toxic fumes and lost consciousness.

Hospital electricity worker Brahmdutt displayed courage and played a crucial role in helping pull the unconscious workers out of the sewer in time. Officials said that a delay of even a few more minutes could have resulted in a far more tragic incident.

After being rescued, all four workers were immediately rushed to the hospital’s emergency ward and later shifted to the ICU due to their critical condition.

Soon after receiving information about the incident, police teams reached the spot and began collecting details. The fire brigade was also informed and called to the scene. Police have initiated an investigation and are questioning hospital management and staff members regarding the incident.

Authorities are also examining whether proper safety equipment and protective gear were provided to the workers before they were sent inside the sewer for cleaning operations.
