Two young men were killed and an eight-year-old child was critically injured after a speeding truck rammed into them while they were changing a flat tyre on the GT Road in Khanna, Ludhiana district, around 2 a.m. on Saturday.
The victims were identified as Amardeep Verma (32) and Vicky (25), both residents of Muradnagar in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. The injured child, aged eight, was rushed to hospital in critical condition.
According to family members, the group was travelling in two cars to the Mata Shri Vaishno Devi shrine when one of the vehicles suffered a tyre puncture on the GT Road near Khanna.
Monika, sister of deceased Amardeep Verma, said the family had stopped to replace the damaged tyre. While Amardeep and Vicky were changing the wheel, the eight-year-old child was standing nearby. A speeding truck approaching from behind allegedly ran over all three.
The impact was so severe that Amardeep and Vicky died on the spot, while the child sustained critical injuries.
The Road Safety Force (SSF) reached the accident site soon after receiving information about the crash. The injured child was initially taken to the Government Hospital in Khanna before being referred to a hospital in Chandigarh due to the severity of the injuries.
The SSF also cleared the damaged vehicles from the GT Road to restore the flow of traffic. Police have taken both bodies into custody for post-mortem examination and launched an investigation into the incident.
