Bhogpur Police have arrested two alleged members of a vehicle theft gang and recovered a stolen motorcycle from their possession, officials said. The arrests were made amid increased incidents of vehicle theft in the area.
The accused have been identified as Avtar Singh, a resident of Boondra village under Bhogpur police station, and Alisha Masih, a resident of Utrar village, also under Bhogpur police station. According to police, both suspects were allegedly involved in vehicle thefts and were looking for a buyer to sell the stolen motorcycle.
Police said an ASI, Sarabjit Singh, along with a team, was conducting a naka and checking suspicious persons and vehicles in the area when they received information from an informer about the two suspects.
Acting on the tip-off, police registered a case and launched an investigation. The two suspects were subsequently arrested and the stolen motorcycle was recovered from their possession.
During the preliminary investigation, police reportedly found indications that the accused may have other associates involved in the vehicle theft network.
The police are now questioning the arrested suspects to determine how many vehicles they allegedly stole and identify the people to whom the stolen vehicles were sold. Further investigation is underway.
