Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Union Minister Pralhad Joshi arrived in Chandigarh on Friday as part of their Punjab-Haryana visit and participated in a programme held at Tagore Theatre. During the event, the ministers launched the CBDC-based Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme under the Public Distribution System (PDS).
The initiative aims to make the ration distribution system more transparent, efficient, and easier for beneficiaries.
Ministers to visit Punjab and Haryana villages
Following the Chandigarh programme, both ministers are scheduled to visit Azizpur village in Punjab and Dhand village in Haryana’s Kaithal district. The visit is focused on reviewing the ration distribution system, farmers’ issues, and grain storage arrangements.
According to the schedule, the ministers will reach Azizpur village around 2 pm. There, Shivraj Singh Chouhan will interact directly with farmers and seek feedback on agricultural challenges, government schemes, and the facilities being provided to the farming community. Farmers will also have the opportunity to present their concerns and suggestions before the minister.
In the evening, around 4:30 pm, the ministers will visit Dhand in Kaithal district, Haryana, where they will inspect an Indian Food Corporation (FCI) grain storage centre. The inspection will focus on grain storage capacity, quality control, and transportation arrangements.
Officials are also expected to brief the ministers on the process through which food grains are supplied to states for the public distribution system.
