A 44-year-old vegetable vendor was allegedly beaten to death by two unidentified men near Budha khera Chowk in Haryana’s Karnal on Tuesday night after a dispute over Rs 10. The victim’s daughter was also injured while trying to save him.

According to police, the deceased has been identified as Sanjay Saini, a resident of Budha khera village, who ran a fruit and vegetable stall near the main road drain area. Sector 32 police station has registered an FIR for murder against two unidentified accused based on a complaint filed by his daughter Shivani.

In her complaint, Shivani said she was present at the shop along with her mother and three sisters around 9:30 pm on May 26 when two young men purchased fruits and vegetables worth around Rs 210. The accused allegedly tried to leave after paying only Rs 200. When the family asked for the remaining Rs 10, the two men reportedly started abusing them.

Hearing the commotion, Sanjay Saini intervened and asked the men not to argue. The situation soon turned violent, and the accused allegedly pushed him before attacking him with a stick and a brick, causing severe head injuries.

Shivani further stated that her younger sister Saloni rushed to rescue their father with a stick, but the attackers snatched it from her and assaulted her, injuring her arm. Their mother Anu was also allegedly beaten when she tried to intervene.

The accused reportedly continued attacking Sanjay Saini with sticks and bricks before fleeing the spot.

Police have launched an investigation to identify and arrest the accused.
