As part of its ongoing “War Against Gangsters” campaign, Punjab Police on Sunday conducted 642 raids at identified and mapped locations linked to associates of gangsters across the state. The campaign, launched by Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on January 20, 2026, aims to make Punjab a gangster-free state.
Police teams from all districts, in coordination with the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), carried out the special operation. On the 237th day of the campaign, police arrested 327 individuals and recovered one weapon. With these arrests, the total number of people apprehended under the drive has reached 70,690.
During the operation, preventive action was also taken against 187 persons, while eight proclaimed offenders were arrested.
Punjab Police has urged citizens to share information related to wanted criminals, gangsters and criminal activities through the Anti-Gangster Helpline at 93946-93946, where information can be provided anonymously.
Meanwhile, under the ongoing anti-drug campaign “war against drugs”, now in its 562nd day, Punjab Police arrested 78 drug smugglers and recovered 830 grams of heroin, 68 kg of poppy husk, 225 intoxicant pills and Rs 1,000 in drug money from their possession.
With the latest arrests, the total number of drug smugglers apprehended under the anti-drug drive has risen to 77,837. As part of de-addiction efforts, police also persuaded five individuals to undergo rehabilitation and treatment.
