A youth was allegedly beaten by shopkeepers and tied to an iron gate after they suspected him of attempting to steal an Activa scooter parked outside a shop in a market on Kapurthala Road. The incident came to light after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

According to information, shopkeepers noticed a youth moving around the market in a suspicious manner and suspected that he was trying to steal an Activa. They reportedly followed him and caught him some distance away.

The shopkeepers allegedly assaulted the youth and also damaged his mobile phone. They later tied him to an iron gate with a rope to prevent him from escaping.

The youth was identified as Vicky, a resident of the Sultanpur area. Vicky denied the theft allegations, saying that he had come to the market to purchase medicines and was walking through the area. He alleged that the shopkeepers caught and assaulted him due to a misunderstanding.

After being informed about the incident, police from Police Station Division No. 2 reached the spot, freed the youth and took him into custody for questioning.

Police are currently investigating both the alleged Activa theft attempt and the assault on the youth. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
