In a shocking and gruesome incident, a 25-year-old man was brutally hacked to death with sharp-edged weapons in the grain market area of Punjab’s Fazilka district on Friday. The victim’s four-year-old nephew was also injured during the attack, triggering panic and outrage in the locality.

The deceased has been identified as Saurav Kumar, a resident of Arya Nagar. According to his parents, Sandeep Singh and Durga Rani, Saurav had gone out to buy lassi along with his four-year-old nephew when the attack took place near the grain market.

Family members alleged that a group of youths, who appeared to be lying in wait, suddenly attacked Saurav with sharp weapons. He sustained multiple severe injuries on his hands, legs, head, face and arms. The assault was so brutal that he died on the spot. His young nephew also suffered injuries while attempts were being made to intervene.

As soon as information about the incident was received, Fazilka DSP B.S. Randhawa reached the spot with a police team and began an investigation. The body was taken into custody and sent for post-mortem examination after the crime scene was inspected.

Speaking to reporters, the victim’s father said his 25-year-old son had been killed in broad daylight. He claimed the family had no known enmity with anyone and could not understand why Saurav was subjected to such a horrific attack. The grieving family has demanded justice and sought the strictest possible punishment for those responsible.

DSP B.S. Randhawa said that police had registered a murder case against 4–5 unidentified assailants. Separate police teams have been formed to trace the accused, and raids are being conducted at various suspected locations.

Police officials said efforts were underway to arrest all those involved at the earliest and determine the exact motive behind the killing. The brutal murder has sent shockwaves across Fazilka, with residents demanding swift action against the culprits.
