A 21-year-old youth was killed after being attacked with sharp-edged weapons by a group of assailants in Siriye Wala village of Bathinda district. Police have registered a case against 10 individuals based on the statement of the victim’s father and launched an investigation into the incident.
According to police, the attack took place on the evening of September 27. Simranpreet Singh (21) was in Siriye Wala village along with his friend Manpreet Singh when around 10 youths from another group allegedly arrived at the spot and surrounded them.
The attackers allegedly assaulted Simranpreet and Manpreet with sharp weapons, leaving both seriously injured. After carrying out the attack, the accused fled the scene.
Local residents rushed the injured youths to a hospital for treatment. However, Simranpreet, who had sustained critical injuries, succumbed during treatment. Manpreet is receiving medical care.
After receiving information about the incident, police teams reached the spot and began an investigation. Preliminary inquiries suggest that the attack was linked to an ongoing personal rivalry. Police said Simranpreet and Manpreet had reportedly been involved in previous disputes with some of the accused.
Investigators are now examining the exact cause of the conflict and the role of those involved in earlier altercations. Police said the motive behind the murder will become clear after the investigation is completed.
