Punjab Newsline, Chandigarh, August 24-
Vigilance Bureau, during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Saturday arrested two auditors, Jagjit Singh and Amit, posted at the Local Audit Office in Ferozepur, red-handed while they were accepting a bribe of Rs 1,30,000.
A spokesperson for the VB revealed that the arrests were made following a complaint from Naib Subedar Satya Prakash of the Indian Army, serving with the 17th Rajput Regiment, Ferozepur Cantonment.
He said that the complainant has approached the VB and reported that the said auditors had been assigned duties by their department to audit the financial records of his unit for the year 2023-2024. The auditors had demanded a bribe of Rs 1,50,000 to clear audit objections from the previous year and to approve the current year's audit.
The complainant further alleged that Auditor Jagjit Singh reiterated the demand to pay the bribe money in the presence of his colleague, Dharmraj, at the Local Audit Office, and he recorded the conversation on his mobile phone.
