A 33-year-old man was arrested by the Sulur Police in Coimbatore early Saturday in connection with the abduction and murder of a 10-year-old girl near Kannampalayam in Sulur.
According to police, the girl had gone to a nearby grocery shop on Thursday evening when the accused allegedly kidnapped her on a two-wheeler.
Investigators said the child was later murdered, and her body was recovered on Friday near a lakeside area in Kannampalayam after she had remained missing since Thursday evening.
The prime accused has been identified as Karthik, a 33-year-old native of Nagapattinam who was currently residing in Pallapalayam near Sulur in Coimbatore district. Police have also detained his associate, Mohan Raj, for allegedly assisting in the crime.
The incident triggered massive outrage in the area. Following the recovery of the girl’s body, her parents, relatives, and local residents staged a strong protest on Sulur Road from Friday night till early Saturday, demanding strict action against the accused.
