Married women will observe Karwachauth on Thursday, October 29, praying for their husbands’ long lives and the happiness and prosperity of their married lives. Women will begin the day by consuming sargi in the morning before observing a nirjala vrat, a fast without food or water. In the evening, they will perform the rituals, listen to the traditional Karwa Chauth story and offer arghya to the Moon after sighting it.
The fast will be concluded after women drink water offered by their husbands. According to the prescribed timings, the auspicious window for the evening puja will be from 5:38 PM to 6:56 PM.
According to astrological beliefs, Rohini Nakshatra will remain in effect until approximately 11:11 AM, after which Mrigashira Nakshatra will begin. At the time of moonrise, the Moon will be positioned in Taurus, considered its exaltation sign in Vedic astrology. Thursday, Chaturthi Tithi and the Moon’s position are regarded as auspicious for the occasion according to traditional astrological beliefs.
During the puja, women will worship Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, Lord Ganesha and Karwa Mata. Rituals will include offering a karwa (traditional earthen pot), a lamp, roli, akshat (unbroken rice grains), flowers and water, followed by the recitation or listening of the Karwa Chauth vrat katha.
At night, women will look at the Moon and their husbands through a sieve before offering arghya to the Moon. They will then break their fast by drinking water, traditionally offered by their husbands.
