Punjab Government has informed the Punjab and Haryana High Court that the names of 19 Punjab Police Service (PPS) officers have been recommended for promotion to the Indian Police Service (IPS). The state submitted that the proposal list, including the petitioner, will be forwarded to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for further action.
The development came during the hearing of a petition filed by PPS officer Ravinder Singh, who had sought directions for his IPS promotion. Following the government's assurance, the petitioner withdrew the case.
According to the government's submission, a final proposal containing the names of 19 officers for vacancies between 2022 and 2025 has been prepared and will be sent to the UPSC. Once the commission issues the selection list, the promoted officers will receive IPS seniority as per the applicable rules.
The court also noted that the petitioner had sought consideration for promotion after fulfilling all eligibility conditions. The state clarified that the promotion process is underway and is being carried out in accordance with the prescribed procedure.
The report further stated that the names of some retired officers have also been included in the proposal, and if selected by the UPSC, they may receive notional joining and related service benefits in line with the rules.
