The 492nd Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Ramdas Ji, the fourth Sikh Guru and founder of Amritsar, was celebrated with deep devotion and religious fervour on Tuesday. Lakhs of devotees from across India and abroad visited Sri Harmandir Sahib, popularly known as the Golden Temple, to pay obeisance and seek blessings.
Devotees took a holy dip in the sacred sarovar and offered prayers for the welfare of all. The shrine was beautifully decorated with flowers, creating a spiritual atmosphere. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) made arrangements for the occasion. However, the massive turnout led to long queues, with several devotees reportedly waiting for four to five hours for darshan.
The bhog of Akhand Path Sahib was performed at Manji Sahib Diwan Hall, followed by Gurbani Kirtan presented by renowned Ragi and Dhadi Jathas.
Special displays of sacred and valuable articles, known as Jalau Sahib, were scheduled at Sri Harmandir Sahib, Sri Akal Takht Sahib and Baba Atal Rai Sahib. These displays include golden doors, silver implements and bowls, along with ornaments studded with gold and diamonds.
The celebrations will conclude with Deepmala, the illumination of the shrine, and fireworks in the evening.
Devotees arriving from different parts of the country and abroad expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to pay obeisance at Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib on the sacred occasion. They offered prayers before Guru Sahib for Sarbat da Bhala — the welfare of all humanity — and said that taking a dip in the holy sarovar brought them spiritual peace.
