Punjab’s flagship Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana has provided free treatment to 2.26 lakh patients within just five months, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh said.

He said the scheme is rapidly strengthening the state’s healthcare system by ensuring cashless and paperless treatment to citizens across government and private hospitals. Under the initiative, a total of 3,65,340 medical procedures have been conducted so far, with the state government spending around ₹632.50 crore to support treatment costs.

Dr. Singh highlighted that the scheme is being implemented through 850 empanelled hospitals across Punjab, offering a wide range of medical services including treatment for cancer, heart diseases, dialysis, ICU care, and other critical illnesses. More than 2,300 treatment packages have been included under the scheme.

He further stated that one of the key strengths of the initiative is its comprehensive coverage from day one, including pre-existing diseases, which are often excluded or delayed in private insurance policies. The scheme also does not require any annual premium, making it more accessible for economically weaker and middle-class families.

The minister added that unlike private insurance models, which often include conditions like co-payment, sub-limits, and exclusions, the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana ensures uniform and full coverage for all eligible beneficiaries.

So far, more than 46.21 lakh health cards have been issued under the scheme, benefiting nearly 22 lakh families across Punjab.

Dr. Balbir Singh said the scheme has proven especially beneficial for senior citizens, who often face high insurance premiums and limited coverage options. He reiterated that the government’s aim is to ensure quality healthcare for every citizen without financial burden.
