A 26-year-old man was brutally stabbed to death with sharp-edged weapons late Saturday night at Fauji Park in Mauli Jagran, Chandigarh. The deceased has been identified as Ashish, a resident of Raipur Kalan, who worked as a gardener in the Chandimandir area.
According to police, despite suffering critical injuries, Ashish managed to make a phone call to his brother-in-law, Arun, a resident of Mauli Complex, before succumbing to his injuries. During the call, he reportedly informed Arun that a group of youths from Rajiv Colony had attacked him with knives.
Upon receiving the call, Arun and his younger brother Sonu rushed to Fauji Park and found Ashish lying in a pool of blood. They immediately shifted him to a hospital in Manimajra, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
After receiving information from the hospital, Mauli Jagran Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Jaskaran Singh reached the hospital with a police team and later inspected the crime scene along with the victim's family members.
During the investigation, police recovered a blood-stained knife, a motorcycle, a pair of slippers, and blood stains spread across a considerable distance. All evidence has been secured for forensic examination.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the crime scene falls under the jurisdiction of the Government Railway Police (GRP). Following this, Mauli Jagran police informed GRP Station House Officer Urmila, after which the GRP team arrived at the spot and took over the investigation.
Police said the victim's final phone call to his brother-in-law is a crucial lead in the case. Investigators are examining all possible angles, including the motive behind the murder and the identities of the attackers. Officials expressed confidence that the accused would be arrested soon.
