On the occasion of the martyrdom day of the fifth Sikh Guru, Guru Arjan Dev Ji, a special group of Sikh devotees departed for Pakistan on June 10 under the leadership of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to pay obeisance at historic Sikh shrines.
A festive and spiritual atmosphere was witnessed at the Attari-Wagah border, where devotees began their journey with chants of “Bole So Nihal, Sat Sri Akal.”
According to Gurinder Singh Mathrewal, Secretary of the SGPC’s Dharam Prachar Committee, the main religious ceremonies commemorating Guru Arjan Dev Ji’s martyrdom will be held in Pakistan on June 18. The pilgrimage group will visit several historic gurdwaras before participating in the commemorative events and is scheduled to return to India on June 19.
Out of 561 passport applications submitted for visas, 541 devotees received visas from the Pakistan High Commission, while 20 applications were not approved.
The delegation is being led by SGPC member Bhupinder Singh Bhalwan, with Gurmeet Singh Bahu serving as deputy leader.
During the pilgrimage, devotees will visit revered Sikh sites including Gurdwara Janam Asthan Nankana Sahib, Gurdwara Panja Sahib, and Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib, where they will offer prayers and participate in religious gatherings.
