A shocking murder case surfaced early Saturday morning in Rawli Kala village of Muradnagar area in Ghaziabad, where an 80-year-old man allegedly hacked his 72-year-old wife to death with an axe before surrendering himself at a police outpost.
According to police, the accused, identified as Harpal, reached the Rawli police chowki around 4 am and informed officers that he had attacked his wife with an axe. Acting swiftly on the confession, police rushed to the spot and began an investigation.
Preliminary inquiry revealed that Harpal allegedly suspected his wife Urmila of having an illicit relationship. Police sources also stated that the elderly man was reportedly mentally unstable and had frequent arguments with his wife.
Investigators found that the couple was originally from the Morta Kabristan area and had been staying at their daughter’s house in Rawli village. Their grandsons, Kunal and Ajay, were also present in the house at the time of the incident, while their parents had gone to Meerut.
The victim’s grandson Kunal told police that his grandfather’s mental condition had not been stable for some time and disputes between the elderly couple were common. On the night of the incident, both Harpal and Urmila were sleeping outside the house when the attack allegedly took place.
When police arrived, they found Urmila lying on a cot with multiple deep axe wounds near her ear and head. She was rushed to the Muradnagar Community Health Centre in critical condition, but doctors declared her dead during treatment.
Police have taken the body into custody and initiated legal proceedings, while further investigation into the case is underway.
