A tragic road accident in Abohar claimed the lives of three people on Tuesday after a speeding Bolero SUV crashed into an e-rickshaw near Ramsara village in Fazilka district. Two others, including a woman and a young girl, were injured in the incident and admitted to hospital.

According to reports, the Bolero was allegedly moving at around 90 kmph when the driver lost control after hitting a pothole on the road. The vehicle then rammed head-on into the e-rickshaw carrying a family returning from a condolence meeting.

The entire incident was captured on CCTV footage, which shows the impact throwing passengers onto the road as the e-rickshaw was completely mangled in the collision.

The deceased have been identified as 60-year-old Devki, her four-year-old grandson Parmish, and e-rickshaw driver Deepak Swami, a resident of Kandhwala Road. Devki’s daughter-in-law Poonam suffered serious injuries, while one-and-a-half-year-old Ritika sustained minor injuries.

Family members said Devki, Poonam, Parmish and Ritika, residents of Ramsara village, had gone to Azimgarh in Abohar to attend a condolence gathering and were returning home in the e-rickshaw when the accident occurred near a petrol pump close to Ramsara village.

Local residents and passersby rushed the injured to the government hospital immediately after the crash. Police reportedly detained the Bolero driver at the scene.

Station House Officer Ravindra Sharma of Bahavwala police station said the vehicles involved in the accident have been seized and the bodies sent for postmortem examination. He added that strict action would be taken against the driver after completion of the investigation.
