Prateek Yadav, the half-brother of Akhilesh Yadav, passed away in Lucknow on Wednesday at the age of 38. He was the youngest son of Mulayam Singh Yadav. According to reports, he was brought to the emergency ward of Civil Hospital around 6 am, where doctors declared him dead after examination.
Prateek Yadav had been suffering from a severe lung-related illness. He was admitted to a private hospital in Lucknow on May 10 after his condition deteriorated critically. Reports said he was battling pulmonary embolism, a life-threatening condition caused by blockage in the lungs.
Reacting to the death of his younger brother, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said, “I have seen Prateek since childhood. Today he is no longer among us, and we are deeply saddened. He wanted to move forward in life and work hard. It is tragic that he is no longer with us. I met him around two months ago. We will follow whatever the family and the law decide and take the legal course.”
Meanwhile, DCP Vikrant Veer reached Prateek Yadav’s residence, where police personnel have been deployed outside the house. Media reports stated that Prateek’s room has been sealed, and preparations are underway to bring his body home.
BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain also expressed condolences, saying, “I am saddened to hear about the demise of Prateek Yadav. We stand with the family in this difficult time.”
Samajwadi Party MP Priya Saroj wrote on social media, “The death of Prateek Yadav is extremely tragic. May God grant peace to the departed soul. Humble tributes.”
