In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Punjab Police arrested a man and recovered 6.72 kilograms of heroin during a raid in Ajnala of Amritsar district. The seized contraband is estimated to be worth several crores of rupees in the international market.
The accused has been identified as Shamsher Singh, a resident of Bachhiwind village under Lopoke police station. According to police, he had been living in a rented house in Shimba Colony, located opposite the BSF campus in Ajnala.
Acting on a specific intelligence input, a police team conducted a raid at the rented accommodation. During the search, officers recovered 6.72 kg of heroin and arrested the accused on the spot.
Police have launched a detailed investigation and are questioning the accused to trace the source and intended destination of the narcotics. Investigators are also examining whether the smuggling operation has links to a Pakistan-based cross-border drug trafficking network.
A case has been registered against the accused under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further legal proceedings are underway.
