Amritsar Commissionerate Police have uncovered a major cross-border network involved in the trafficking of illegal weapons, narcotics and hawala money transfers. In the operation, four accused were arrested while two juveniles were also detained for their alleged involvement in the racket.
During the crackdown, police seized 1.035 kilograms of heroin, five modern pistols, two live cartridges and ₹5 lakh believed to be proceeds from drug trafficking.
According to preliminary investigations, the accused were allegedly working in coordination with associates based abroad. Police said the network used social media platforms to arrange the procurement of illegal weapons and narcotics. The contraband was then distributed further on the instructions of handlers operating from overseas.
One of the arrested suspects has been identified as Baz Mohammad, an Afghan national. Police officials said he has previously been booked under the NDPS Act and had been living in Delhi for an extended period while allegedly managing parts of the illegal network.
Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar stated that other arrested accused, including Ankush and Deshraj, also have previous cases related to drug trafficking registered against them.
Investigators have further revealed that members of the network allegedly used hawala channels for financial transactions linked to the drug trade. Authorities have launched a detailed financial investigation to trace the money trail and identify additional individuals connected to the operation.
Police said efforts are underway to uncover the full extent of the syndicate’s activities, including its interstate and international links.
