Amritsar Commissionerate Police have destroyed narcotic substances seized in 280 cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act after completing all legal formalities. The disposal was carried out at Khanna Paper Mill under the supervision of the Drug Disposal Committee.
Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that while recovering narcotics is a key part of the anti-drug campaign, their timely and lawful disposal is equally important to ensure transparency and compliance with legal procedures.
He said the destroyed contraband included 12.9 kilograms of heroin, lakhs of intoxicant capsules and tablets, more than 4.38 lakh grams of narcotic powder, 12 kilograms of poppy husk, 3.15 kilograms of smack, besides charas, ganja, bhang, and other psychotropic substances seized during investigations.
Commissioner Bhullar noted that cross-border drug smuggling through drones remains one of the biggest challenges for Punjab Police. Despite this, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police continue to intensify operations, dismantle drug trafficking networks, and take stringent action against drug smugglers as part of the state's ongoing anti-narcotics drive.
