Amritsar Commissionerate Police have dismantled an illegal arms and narcotics smuggling module operating with links across the international border.
Two smugglers have been arrested, leading to the recovery of six sophisticated pistols, one kilogram of heroin, one kilogram of opium, and ₹10,000 in suspected drug money.
Police described the operation as a significant success in curbing cross-border smuggling networks. Preliminary investigations revealed that both accused were in direct contact with a foreign-based handler, who allegedly coordinated the smuggling of illegal weapons and narcotics into India through the international border.
According to investigators, the arrested suspects were responsible for receiving the consignments and supplying them to criminals and drug traffickers operating across Punjab. Officials said the recovered firearms are highly sophisticated and could have been used in serious criminal activities.
The timely bust is believed to have prevented several potential crimes.
Separate FIRs have been registered at Chheharta Police Station and Cantonment Police Station in Amritsar. Police are conducting detailed interrogations to identify the network's forward and backward linkages, trace other associates connected to the overseas handler, and determine the geographical spread of the smuggling syndicate.
