Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President Nitin Nabin, who is on a three-day visit to Punjab, met Padma Vibhushan awardee and renowned agricultural economist Dr. S.S. Johl on the final day of his tour. During the meeting, Nabin presented a booklet highlighting the achievements of the Narendra Modi-led government over the past 12 years.

The BJP leader sought Dr. Johl’s suggestions on agricultural policy and measures to strengthen the economic condition of farmers. Dr. Johl emphasized the urgent need to address the issue of groundwater depletion and said the Central Government should work swiftly on groundwater conservation initiatives.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Nitin Nabin said the BJP is reaching out to people through its public contact campaign and informing them about the work done by the Modi government over the last 12 years. He said the interaction with Dr. Johl was part of this outreach effort.

Nabin praised Dr. Johl’s contribution to the agricultural sector and said his vast experience could benefit policymakers. He assured that the suggestions shared by the agricultural expert would be conveyed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and that the government would seriously consider implementing them. He added that Dr. Johl’s recommendations would benefit farmers not only in Punjab but across the country.

Dr. Johl said he had not yet gone through the BJP booklet in detail but noted that people are already aware of the government's work. He stated that leaders from various political parties often visit him to discuss policy matters and that the BJP president had shared his vision during the meeting.

The veteran economist reiterated the importance of focusing on groundwater management and also suggested that governments should move away from a culture of excessive freebies. Instead, he said, efforts should be made to create opportunities that help farmers and citizens become economically self-reliant.
