A body of an unidentified man was found in the bushes near the entrance of the Motor Market in Chandigarh’s Sector 38 on Friday, triggering a police investigation.

The body was spotted by a shopkeeper who had gone towards the bushes to use the toilet. Alarmed by the sight, he immediately informed other traders in the market, who then alerted the police control room.

According to preliminary findings, a bundle of bidis and a matchbox were recovered from the deceased, while a syringe was found lying near his waist. Based on the evidence found at the scene, police suspect the possibility of a drug overdose, although no conclusion has been reached yet.

Officials said the body appeared to be two to three days old, making identification difficult as the face had turned black due to decomposition. After receiving the information, a PCR team reached the spot, secured the area, and informed the local police station.

The police took the body into custody and covered it before calling forensic experts and the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) team to examine the scene. Investigators are collecting evidence to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.

Maloya Police Station SHO Baldev Singh said that all angles, including murder and natural or accidental death, are being investigated. The exact cause of death will only be confirmed after the forensic examination and post-mortem report are received.
