A major security alert was issued in Chandigarh on Tuesday after multiple schools and the office of Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini received bomb threat emails, prompting police to launch extensive security checks.

The threats surfaced on the very day schools in Chandigarh reopened after the summer vacation. The first email was received by the Air Force School in Sector 31, following which similar threat emails were reported by several other educational institutions across the city.

The schools that reportedly received the emails include Government Model Senior Secondary Schools in Sectors 37-B and 37-D, Vivek High School in Sector 38, Sacred Heart School and Strawberry Fields High School in Sector 26, Delhi Public School (DPS) in Sector 40, and Carmel Convent School in Sector 9.

According to officials, the email claimed that bomb blasts and improvised explosive devices (IEDs), along with drone attacks, had been planned. It mentioned 1:11 pm as the time for attacks on schools across Chandigarh and 3:11 pm for the Haryana Chief Minister's office.

Police and security agencies immediately swung into action, carrying out thorough searches of the schools and other sensitive locations. Authorities have urged the public to remain calm while investigations continue.

Officials also noted that, unlike previous threat emails that were often sent through Gmail, this latest message was sent using a Rediffmail account, a detail that investigators are examining.

The threatening email also mentioned Union Home Minister Amit Shah and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar as targets. It further claimed that railway tracks were also on the attackers' radar, warning people against travelling by train and threatening parents not to send their children to Independence Day parade events on August 15.

Authorities are treating the threat with utmost seriousness and are working to trace the origin of the email while maintaining heightened security across Chandigarh and adjoining areas.
