Breast feeding week at Gian Sagar

PATIALA: The Gian Sagar College of Nursing in collaboration with the Department of Community Medicine organized a function to mark the start of the breast feeding week celebrations at the Gian Sagar Medical College and Hospital.

Students of the Nursing College put up a poster exhibition highlighting the importance of breast feeding which was inaugurated by Dr AS Sekhon, Dean of the Gian Sagar Medical College and Hospital.

Dr Sekhon, speaking on the occasion, said that World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated annually in the first week of August with a view to encourage breastfeeding and improve the health of babies. No powdered milk formula can match the nutritional value and immunity offered by human breast milk.

Dr Amarjit Singh, Head of the Department of Community Medicine, said the Breastfeeding Week represents a global celebration of breastfeeding efforts including breastfeeding promotion, support, research, progressive trends and normalizing breastfeeding as the gold standard of infant nutrition.

Dr Davinder Kaur, Principal of the Gian Sagar College of Nursing, underlined the importance of breast feeding both for the baby and the mother.

Prominent among others who spoke on the occasion included Principal of the Medical College Dr Kamaljit Singh, Medical Superintendent Col SPS Goraya, Dr Kendy Sandhu, and Preety Narula.
