Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann launched a sharp attack on the Centre, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government of pushing the country into an “undeclared lockdown” through rising inflation and various restrictions. He alleged that under the leadership of Narendra Modi, the real economic situation of the country is being concealed from citizens, increasing the burden on the common man.

The Chief Minister claimed that fuel prices were deliberately kept stable until the conclusion of Assembly elections, only to be raised immediately afterward. He said this move has directly impacted ordinary citizens and added to their financial strain. Mann also demanded that the Centre make public the actual status of the country’s oil, gas, and gold reserves, asserting that people have the right to know the true state of the economy.

Targeting the Centre over inflation, he said global factors are being used as an excuse to justify rising prices. He further remarked that if the Prime Minister is unable to clearly explain the country’s economic condition, he should seek clarity from international allies.

On the issue of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Punjab, the Chief Minister assured that the state government and the Aam Aadmi Party would ensure that no genuine voter is deleted and no fake voter is added. He directed party volunteers to closely monitor the entire process.

Highlighting the “Jagat Jyot Shri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026,” Mann described it as a historic step fulfilling a long-pending demand of the Sikh community. He said the law ensures strict punishment for acts of sacrilege and will help uphold the sanctity and dignity of Shri Guru Granth Sahib.

The Chief Minister reiterated that the Punjab government remains fully committed to safeguarding democracy, ensuring transparency, and protecting religious sentiments.
