Actor Ranveer Singh is facing a non-cooperation directive from the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) after stepping away from the upcoming film Don 3. Following the development, several members of the film industry have come out in support of the actor.

Actor Chunky Panday revealed that he too had once faced a similar ban in the industry. He said the restriction against him was later lifted after he issued an apology.

Film editor Shweta Venkat criticized FWICE’s move, calling it “selective outrage.” She stated that hundreds of editors had raised concerns in the past, but such a strong reaction was never seen before. Shweta has worked on films like Gangs of Wasseypur, Newton, Haseen Dillruba and Kalank.

What Is the Controversy?

Filmmaker Farhan Akhtar reportedly claimed that nearly ₹45 crore had already been spent on the pre-production of Don 3. Following this, he lodged a complaint with FWICE.

FWICE later said in a press conference that Ranveer Singh had been called three times to present his side, but he did not appear. After this, the federation instructed directors, cinematographers and crew members not to work with him, sparking reports that the actor had been “banned.”

However, FWICE chief advisor and filmmaker Ashoke Pandit clarified that no official ban has been imposed on Ranveer Singh. He said FWICE members have only been advised not to work with the actor until the issue is resolved.
