A Class 5 student lost her life in a tragic road accident after being hit by an Army truck outside a school in Jalandhar Cantonment on Tuesday afternoon. The victim, identified as Payal, a resident of Sodhal, was waiting for her school bus with her classmates when the incident occurred.
The accident took place outside Kendriya Vidyalaya-3 (KV-3) shortly after school hours. According to eyewitnesses, a bus from KV-4 had arrived to pick up students, and Payal was standing with her friends waiting to board.
During this time, an Army truck approached the school premises. Witnesses alleged that the driver attempted to make a U-turn, during which the truck struck the young student. The vehicle's wheel reportedly ran over her head, causing fatal injuries. She died on the spot.
The incident triggered panic among students, parents, and bystanders present near the school. The school bus driver immediately informed the school authorities and Payal's father, Ashok Kumar, about the accident. Family members rushed to the scene, where emotional scenes unfolded as the grieving father saw his daughter's body.
Police from the Cantonment police station reached the spot soon after receiving information, took the body into custody, and sent it for post-mortem examination.
Officials said statements of eyewitnesses are being recorded, and a detailed investigation is underway. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.
