Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Tuesday Launches Underground Power Line Project.

The project was inaugurated from the Chief Minister’s native village, Satoj. The Punjab government will spend nearly Rs 8 crore on the initiative, which is expected to improve safety and convenience for farmers across the state.

Under the project, around seven kilometers of high-tension power lines and 9.5 kilometers of low-tension electricity lines in Satoj village will be laid underground. Existing electricity poles and exposed wires passing through farmlands will be removed and replaced with a modern underground cable system.

Chief Minister Mann said incidents of crop fires caused by short circuits and sparking from overhead electricity wires have frequently led to heavy financial losses for farmers. He stated that the underground power system would significantly reduce such accidents and help protect crops.

He further announced that the project would not remain limited to Satoj village and would be implemented across Punjab in a phased manner. According to the Chief Minister, removing poles and overhead wires from fields will make agricultural activities smoother and reduce difficulties in operating modern farming machinery.

Mann said the Punjab government is prioritizing farmers’ welfare and continuously introducing new schemes to make farming safer, modern, and more convenient. Strengthening rural electricity infrastructure while freeing agricultural land from poles and hanging wires is the main objective of the initiative.

Farmers in Satoj village have welcomed the move, saying the underground electricity system will improve crop safety and make field work easier and more efficient.
