Chandigarh Police have uncovered a major lead in the murder case of cashier Janki Das, who was killed at Shri Kumar Chemist in Sector-11. Investigators have found that the shooters involved in the crime are suspected to be linked to the Rajouri region of Jammu and Kashmir, triggering an alert among central security agencies.

According to sources, this is the first instance in the city where a gang allegedly outsourced a contract killing to sharpshooters from Jammu and Kashmir. Police officials believe the attackers were professionally trained and had carried out similar movements in the past.

Multiple-State Hunt for Suspects Intensifies

Investigating teams have reportedly identified the suspected assailants and launched coordinated raids across several states to trace and arrest them. Police sources also confirmed that teams have reached the native areas of the shooters as part of the manhunt.

Officials said the accused had previously visited Chandigarh multiple times and maintained local contacts. During the probe, links have also emerged pointing towards a locality in Sector-29, where possible local support networks are now under investigation.

Gang Rivalry, Extortion Angle Under Probe

While early investigation considered the possibility of mistaken identity, the focus has now shifted to broader angles, including business rivalry, extortion threats, and involvement of organised crime syndicates.

Sources added that investigators are also examining the rapidly expanding medical retail business ecosystem in the city and whether professional competition or new branch expansions played any role in the crime.

Investigation Continues

Police teams are continuing raids and intelligence gathering operations, while central agencies remain on alert due to the cross-border and inter-state nature of the suspected network. Further arrests are expected as the probe deepens.
