In a significant crackdown on cross-border narcotics trafficking, Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence (CI) unit in Ferozepur has dismantled a major drug smuggling module, arresting four individuals and recovering a massive 28.12 kilograms of heroin along with ₹9.5 lakh in suspected drug money.
The arrested accused have been identified as Bagicha Singh and Bhupinder Singh, both residents of village Boghi Wala in Guru Har Sahai; Sajan from village Araiyan Wala; and Chhinder Pal Singh alias Rinku from Lakha Singh Wala in Ferozepur. Police teams also impounded a Hyundai Creta vehicle allegedly being used to transport the narcotics consignment.
Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, stated that preliminary investigations have revealed the involvement of foreign-based smugglers and handlers. These handlers had reportedly assigned the accused to retrieve heroin consignments smuggled across the international border and distribute them within Indian territory.
The operation was carried out following credible intelligence inputs, which indicated that the suspects had recently received a consignment from across the border and were on their way to deliver it further. Acting swiftly, the CI team intercepted the accused in the Guru Har Sahai area and seized the contraband along with cash believed to be linked to drug trade activities.
Providing further details, AIG Counter Intelligence Ferozepur, Gursewak Singh, said that the accused were lured into the operation with promises of substantial financial rewards by their handlers. He added that investigations are ongoing to uncover both backward and forward linkages in the network, and more arrests and recoveries are expected in the coming days.
A case under FIR No. 13 dated May 23, 2026, has been registered at Police Station SSOC Fazilka under relevant sections of the NDPS Act. Authorities are intensifying efforts to dismantle the entire cross-border drug smuggling network as part of the state’s ongoing drive to curb drug trafficking.
